Overview

This fully guided adventure is truly one of a kind. It combines wildlife, mountains, lakes, ancient forests, and ancient cultures in one of the world’s last real wildernesses.

CRADLE OF HUMANKIND TOUR

Travel back in time to the cradle of mankind. Visit the birthplace of our ancestors on the shores of Lake Turkana. Your adventure begins at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, where you will enjoy breakfast with the giraffes. Journey on to Solio Lodge to see the rhinos. Then, travel by helicopter to Lake Turkana and the Turkana Basin Institute. Here, you will meet the legendary Leakey family, who have been unearthing clues to our past for generations. After two nights at the Turkana Basin Institute, spend your final night at Sasaab, our luxury tented camp in Kenya’s northern frontier. This adventure provides the unique opportunity to spend time in the fascinating facility of Turkana. It also combines wildlife, mountains, lakes, ancient forests, and ancient people in one of the world’s last real wildernesses. This is a fully guided trip and an experience of a lifetime.

Guide price based on a minimum of four people traveling for 5 nights, full board, including a private guide, helicopter, two scheduled flights, and transfers from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The price is correct to the best of our knowledge, but is intended to be a guide price and is subject to change at the time of confirmation.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Turkana region is a UNESCO heritage site, offering some of the richest evidence of human origins, preserved within the Rift Valley walls. Reach Turkana by helicopter, flying over Northern Kenya’s varied topography and vast, beautiful expanse. Our helicopter day trips showcase breathtaking sights, from the volcanic island within the ‘Jade Sea’ to the pink sea of flamingos.

WHEN TO GO

Lake Turkana, the world’s largest permanent desert lake and alkaline lake, supports rich wildlife and has a very dry, hot climate. The warmest, driest months are October to January, while July and August are the coolest. Annual rainfall is less than 200 mm, most likely between March and May.
