Travel back in time to the cradle of mankind. Visit the birthplace of our ancestors on the shores of Lake Turkana. Your adventure begins at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, where you will enjoy breakfast with the giraffes. Journey on to Solio Lodge to see the rhinos. Then, travel by helicopter to Lake Turkana and the Turkana Basin Institute. Here, you will meet the legendary Leakey family, who have been unearthing clues to our past for generations. After two nights at the Turkana Basin Institute, spend your final night at Sasaab, our luxury tented camp in Kenya’s northern frontier. This adventure provides the unique opportunity to spend time in the fascinating facility of Turkana. WHEN TO GO
Lake Turkana, the world’s largest permanent desert lake and alkaline lake, supports rich wildlife and has a very dry, hot climate. The warmest, driest months are October to January, while July and August are the coolest. Annual rainfall is less than 200 mm, most likely between March and May.
